Materials play a crucial role in the process of building everything, so obtaining them is a very important skill. Use your pickaxe to destroy anything you could find to obtain the important materials - you can chop off trees, rocks, abandoned cars, or any building. The game will always prepare events for you, so try to gather as much materials as you can. When you break something down, there will be three main resources: Wood, Stone, and Metal. Wood is the easiest material to find, with its origin coming from any tree, box, or building. Stone lies inside the rocks mostly, and the Metal belongs to cars and machinery of all types. The pickaxe can take down anything for you, but before you swing it please be careful - the noise might attract some unwanted attention.

If you are new to the game, you will see that lots of players are building towers of boxes at a fast speed - those are the building 90s. This build is popular because they are fast and useful at the same time. Just placing four walls, a floor and ramp as fast as you can by jumping and spinning in a circle, you’ve got yourself a 90s building. To build the 90s even faster, start with a single ramp, then put up some walls. Follow this with a jump, then build a floor, and then another ramp. Repeat this process and you’ve got yourself a high ground as foundation.
When the storm is coming
When the storm is coming, you need to find somewhere to keep yourself safe. Usually players will go on foot when traveling towards the green grass to safety, but there is always something that might block the progress such as mountains or gaps requiring the need to jump. This is when the skill of building becomes essential. See some impossible gaps out there? You can build a bridge to walk right through. Some rough mountain edges? Go for the stairs to make the climb so much easier. Anything is impossible, that’s how people build everything on this earth. It’s also applicable to Fortnite as well.

Remember that Fornite will be taking a lot from you. Consider time, dedication, planning, as well as much of the resources inside the game. Gathering enough materials is already time-consuming, so do not use up all your resources to build up a fancy fort for combat when there is ground that needs to be covered.
CONS
The storm will be coming once in a while, so if you spend all of your materials building one fort, you will have no materials left for the upcoming storm. And prepare your schedule for Fortnite, since this game is so good you might spend more time here than you’ve ever expected.
